Censors Banned Tom Hanks from Smoking in the New Movie

In the new movie called ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ starring Tom Hanks, strict ratings guidelines prohibit the actor to smoke cigarettes in movie scenes. The movie is a drama about the battle to bring Mary Poppins to the big screen and Hanks plays a movie Mogul. Now in order to satisfy censors, smoking scenes should be omitted.

The actor told that producers had negotiations on the subject and they were prevented from showing scenes where Walt Disney is smoking.

According to Hanks, there are some difficulties with smoking scenes in the movie where Walt Disney is making Mary Poppins. It would be great to give the film rating ‘R’. However, the negotiations led to total exclusion of smoking in the movie.

There is a scene where the actress Emma Thompson in the role of Pamela Lyndon Travers (the author of Poppins) rushes into Disney’s office and sees him putting out a cigarette in the ashtray on the table.

People who knew Walt Disney very well say that he smoked three packs of cigarettes daily and you could often hear him coming down the hall because of excessive smoking.
