What Designer Cigarette Is Right For You?

by Jenny Novac on June 30, 2011

Fashion offers a lot of glamorous ways to die: heart failure from malnourishment, scarf strangulation in a moving car and even insanity caused by toxic eye makeup. But for now we’re going to focus on fashion cigarettes.

The fashion blogosphere has recently latched onto images of Yves Saint Laurent’s branded smokes, even though these and similar designer cigs have been around since at least the 1980′s. Fashion people are known for the “cigarette and Tic Tac lunch”, so why restrict yourself to the pedestrian options at your corner deli when you can light up one of these:

Cartier Brand

Cartier’s branded cigarettes are manufactured in Switzerland and Holland and come in a square white box similar to that of Dunhill (see below). They come in two lengths and the body of the cigarette is flat white with a black Cartier logo.

For you if: You want a minimalist smoking option because you prefer to sport the bling on your fingers, not between them.

Sobranie Cocktail

Sobranie cigarettes combine a London heritage with Russian craftsmanship. Apparently Russian people rolled the best ciggies back in the day? The cocktail comes in a pastel colored box with gold accents, and the cigarette itself mimics that design. Each box contains five colors, just like crayons. Perfect for children!

For you if: You need a variety of cigarette color options to match with your outfits (paging Anna Dello Russo!).

Sobranie Black Russian

You can’t beat basic black. These are super-difficult to find and have become a cult item among the Japanese and Korean fashion communities. They’re black (to match the color of your lungs!) with a gold foil filter.

For you if: You’re totally goth or you never wear anything but black.

The manliest of the bunch, as Dunhill is a menswear brand. They come in a variety of boxes depending on the regional market, but always feature the Dunhill logo and “London-Paris-New York”.

For you if: you’re a manly man with exquisite taste that wants to assert his superiority in a subtle but cutting way

Although the box is black with gold accents, the cigarettes themselves are plain white. Other variations of the box are marbled green and red mimicking the Opium perfume box. But it’s the black box that has been making the press rounds lately.

For you if: You’re Tila Tequila. Enough said.

So do you hand-roll your cigarettes because you’re a broke hipster or buy these redic variations at the duty free because you’re a cancer connoisseur?
