Dieter Rams is a famous German designer who worked for Braun company. He was born in Wiesbaden, Hessen Germany, and on May 20 he celebrated 82 years old. Despite success in design, Dieter Rams always considered himself an architect.
He studied interior design and architecture in Wiesbaden School of Art and graduted it in 1953. At the beginning he worked as an architect, and soon started to work for Braun, where he achieved a great success. Totally for Braun he created designs for 514 products! The first product he designed for the company was the SK4 record player, which he created together with Hans Gugelot.
Dieter Rams’ favorite product created for Braun is the T2 Cylinder cigarette lighter. It was launched in 1968 and for the first time it used magnetic ignition device. Smoker Rams most of all loved to design lighters for cigarettes as “small sculptural objects.” Today T2 Cylinder cigarette lighter may be seen in New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.
